Meet Our High School Staff
Tamara Alexander is the counselor tech, dual credit and third-party programs coordinator who joined the K12 team in 2013. She brings more than 15 years in customer service and education. Tamara attended Tyler Junior College and The University of North Texas. Tamara looks forward to the opportunity to serve alongside you as we strive for excellence in education, in high school and beyond.
Shelley Ancira is a counselor tech who joined the K12 team in 2017. She had worked for over 5 years in PEIMS for Huntsville ISD before joining K12.
Morgan Andoe is Career and Technology teacher who brings 10 years of experience in Marketing and Family Consumer Science education to our programs here at K12. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State, with an associate’s degree in General Arts. Morgan holds certificates in Marketing Education, Family Consumer Science, and Early Childhood Education, with experience each field. Mrs. Andoe has a strong passion and belief that CTE programs enrich our student’s future career paths.
Kyle Barker is a high school math teacher who joined the k12 team in 2018. She brings more than 10 years of experience in math education. Kyle earned a BS from Texas State University. She also attended UT Austin. She holds teaching certificates in Math, Special Education, ESL, and Dance. Kyle is a native Texan and enjoys fishing, camping, sporting clay shoots, gardening, board games, puzzles, needlepoint, and cooking.
Katherine Barrett is a high school Electives teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. She has 15 years of experience in the corporate world, and over 7 years in education. Katherine earned a BS in Business Administration from Texas Woman's University. She is certified to teach Business Education, Art, and Family and Consumer Sciences.
Robyn Best is a TOPS high school Counselor joining the K12 team in September of 2018. She brings 34 years of experience in education. Robyn earned her BA in Education for East Texas State University and a MS in Guidance & Counseling for Texas A&M University - Commerce.
Jaime Compton is a high school Math teacher who joined the K12 team in 2015. She brings more than 10 years of experience in education. Ms. Compton earned a BS in Mathematics Education from Auburn University, and a M.Ed. in Educational Technology from UNT.
Suellen Crowley is a high school US Government teacher. This is her sixth year at K12 schools and she has over 25 years of teaching experience in public, private, and homeschooling her own children. Ms. Crowley earned her BS in Journalism and Political Science from Texas Christian University. She later attended the University of Texas at Arlington to add her teaching certifications. She is certified in all social studies disciplines as well as English.
Drew Crumbaugh teaches World Geography and Honors World History. While this is his first year at TOPS, he has been teaching for nearly a decade. Mr. Crumbaugh graduated from Texas Tech University in 2006 with a B.A. in History, and holds certificates for Social Studies.
Scott Drdul is a high school teacher who joined the k12 team in 2011. He started his teaching career in 1993. He earned his BS in Education from ENMU - Portales and later his M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from WTAMU in 2002. He holds teaching certificates in 6-12 Mathematics and 6-12 Science.
Aubrie Firebaugh is a high school Advisor who joined the K12 team in 2013. She has worked with both High School and Middle School students as an Advisor over the past 5 years. She also has 7 years personal experience schooling her children at home. Aubrie earned a BA in Science from the University of North Texas.
Camille Frost has been teaching for 18 years, 6 of those with K12. She was formerly the Public Speaking teacher at another online school before transitioning into her new role as the TOPS 10th grade Advisor. She spent her first two years of college at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a BA in Theatre and Vocal Music. She sang for the El Paso Opera Company before settling into teaching. She taught Theatre for 10 years in Brick and Mortar along with Drill Team and Cheerleading. Her husband, Dr. Charles Crews, is the Director of the School Counseling Program at Texas Tech University. They have two children, Daley who is 13 and Oliver is 1 year old.
Valerie Gillen is a high school guidance counselor who has been a member of the K12 team for four years. Valerie earned a BA in Business Administration from Texas Tech University before obtaining her teaching certificate. She earned a MA in Education for Guidance Counseling from Angelo State University of Graduate Studies. She holds teaching certificates in Special Education, HS English, Physical Education, as well as a Generalist for Middle School. She also has her counseling certification.
Keisha Glapion is an English I teacher who joined the K12 team in 2016. She has been teaching high school English for the past 24 years--8 of them in online learning. Ms. Glapion earned her BA in English Education from Xavier University of Louisiana is currently pursuing a M.Ed. in Instructional Technology. She holds certificates in Texas and Louisiana in 6-12 ELA, and an ELL Supplement.
Charles Greene is a high school Math teacher who has been teaching with K12 for 10 years. He earned his degree BS in Math and computer sciences from the University of Tulsa back in the 1980's.
Celisa Henderson is a high school Physical Education and Health teacher. She has been with K12 since 2012, and she has taught High School English and Electives during her time here. Mrs. Henderson began teaching in 2001, and she spent 10 years in a traditional brick and mortar setting in Katy ISD. In Katy, she was a junior high English teacher, coach, and an elementary PE teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State and her teaching certificate from Texas State University. She holds certificates in K-12 Health, K-12 Physical Education, and 6-12 English.
Monica Henderson is a High School Government and Economics teacher. She brings more that 15 years of experience in education and community service. Monica earned a BS in Political Science from Texas A&M University. She holds the following teaching certificates: EC-4, 4-8 Generalist, and 8-12 Social Studies Composite.
Camille Henslee teaches AP World History and World History. She joined the K12 team in 2012. Mrs. Henslee has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a master’s degree in Educational Administration. She taught for six years in brick and mortar school before joining the online educational world with K12.
Courtney Henson is a high school English teacher who joined the K12 family in 2016. She has five years of experience in the brick and mortar setting before taking a few years off to stay at home with her son. Courtney earned a BA in English from Texas A&M University. She is certified in English Language Arts and Reading in grades 8-12.
Sarah Hooker is a high school English teacher who joined the K12 team in 2014. She brings 10 years of experience in education and a passion for being a lifelong learner. Sarah earned her BA in English with teacher certification from Tarleton State University, and as of December 2018, she holds a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Instructional Design and Technology also from Tarleton State University. She holds certificates in 8-12 English and ESL.
Anne Joles is the 11th grade advisor. This is her third school year with K12 but her first school year with TOPS. Previously she taught for three years and worked in other student support services positions. Mrs. Joles earned her M.Ed. in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas in Arlington. Saginaw Valley State University is where Mrs. Joles completed her BA with a double major in communication and sociology. She holds two certifications: 4-8 generalist and 7-12 speech.
Megan Keeton is a high school Algebra 1 teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. She brings 8 years of education experience with her. Mrs. Keeton earned a BS from Abilene Christian University. She holds certifications for high school mathematics and 4th-8th grade generalist.
Felisha Keilholz is a high school U.S. History and AP U.S. History Teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. She has 8 years of experience in education, both in the public school and university setting. Felisha earned a BA in History, an MS in Ancient History, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum Development from the University of North Texas. She holds a Teaching Certificate in History 7-12. Ms. Keilholz is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology. Felisha is passionate about history, and loves to share her enthusiasm for the subject with her students.
Candice Leatherbury is an English III teacher who joined the K12 team in 2015. She has taught all levels of High School English and taught various other subjects such as Geography and Computer Science. Candace earned her Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Tyler. Additionally, she holds certifications in Technology Applications, Speech, and Health.
Jonathan Mathew is a Pre-AP Biology & Biology teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. He brings more than 9 years of experience in teaching and staff development. Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Science Education and a minor in Physics from Wayne State University. He holds certificates in Science & ESL.
Donna McEldowney is a high school English teacher, currently teaching English I and Creative Writing. She is new to K12 this year, bringing over 12 years of experience in education working with diverse populations. Donna holds a BA in Psychology from the University of North Texas as well as a M.Ed. from Concordia University, specializing in Differentiated Instruction. She is certified in 8-12 English Language Arts and Reading, 8-12 Math, and Special Education and is trained in ESL, gifted education, and AP curriculum. Outside of teaching, Donna is a practicing writer and writing consultant, specializing in screenwriting.
Robin Moore is a High School Fine Art and Physical Education teacher who began teaching at K12 in 2007. She earned her BS degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 1992, and has taught in the classroom (as well as coached) and at K12 a combined 25 years. She is certified in Physical Education, Art, Health and ELA, and holds a personal training certification from ACE. In her spare time, she enjoys painting and other art forms, playing steel pan, and exercising outdoors.
Karly Susan Norrell is a Pre-Calculus and AP Statistics teacher who joined the k12 team in the fall of 2017. She has been teaching mathematics for 16 years, from Pre-School to college level mathematics. She has BS in Business Administration and is certified to teach all levels of math, and business, and middle school social studies.
Micah Painter has taught technology for 7 years, two of which have been with Texas Online Prep School. To say that she loves to teach is an understatement - in her family, teaching is a passion and a tradition. It's in her blood. She is so excited that K12 has given her the opportunity to expand her students from the teddy bears in her classroom as a child, to thousands of students all over Texas!
Katie Pesek is a high school math teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She has a degree from Texas A&M University. She has taught math from grade 5 up to Calculus.
Sherry Phelps teaches High School World Geography and Anthropology. She joined the K12 team in 2017. Mrs. Phelps has been teaching for 6 years. She taught World History for 4 years and US History for 1 year. Sherry earned her BA and graduated with honors from Houston Baptist University, where she double majored in Education and Composite Social Studies. She holds an 8-12 Composite Social Studies certification.
Christiana Robinson is a TOPS high school chemistry teacher. She has taught science for K12 since 2011. Mrs. Robinson has taught a total of 14 years. She has taught 9th grade biology and spent 6 years being a college professor. She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where she received a BS degree in Biology. She also went to the University of the Incarnate Word where she received a master’s degree in Biology as well. She is a self-proclaimed science nerd.
Michelle Sheffer teaches both AP Literature and Composition and AP Language and Composition, having taught at TOPS for 3 years. She brings over 10 years of classroom experience in all Language Arts levels. Michelle has a BS in Psychology with a Minor in English and a MS in Adolescent Psychology, working on her PhD in Educational Psychology. She holds her certification in Secondary Education in English and Language Arts and Advanced Placement.
Ashley Spencer is a high school lead teacher and social studies teacher who joined the K12 Texas team in 2012. She has 14 years of experience in education and is passionate about her students becoming responsible citizens locally and globally. Ashley has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University and is currently working towards her master's in Curriculum and Instruction.
Cheryl Stanton teaches High School Elective courses. She has 15 years of teaching experience.
Sarah Sumrall is the high school counseling department Lead who joined TOPS in July 2018. She has been in the counseling department with K12 since 2012. Prior to K12, she worked in education for nine years as a 3rd grade bilingual teacher. Sarah earned a BA in Social Work from Bethel University and will graduate with a MA in Education from Angelo State University this spring.
Krista Timms is a High School science teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. She brings more than 9 years of experience in education, a variety of science courses, and coaching student/athletes. Mrs. Timms earned a BA in Exercise Science from Abilene Christian University. She holds certificates in 8-12 Science and Health.
Kate Vela is a High School Advisor who joined the K12 team in 2016. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2003 and holds certificates in ECE-Generalist, English as a Second Language, and Gifted and Talented. Helping in the academic field as well as lending support to families with medically complex children is most important to her. She’s committed to making a difference in the lives of future generations through her job with Texas Online Preparatory School, as well as in the lives of her children.
Julia Vercher is an English IV teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. She brings more than 11 years of teaching experience in education. Julia earned a BA in English from Texas State University. She holds certificates in English Language Arts (Secondary) and ESL.
Mariana Ward is a High School Spanish teacher who joined the K12 team in 2015. Mariana attended the University of Texas at Austin for her bachelor's degree and the University of Texas at San Antonio for her master's degree.
Karon Washburn is the Lead High School Advisor foe TOPS. As an educator with over twenty-five years of experience, she has been a classroom teacher, 504/RTI Coordinator, and a Dyslexia Specialist prior to joining the Advising team with K12.
Lindsay Watts is a high school Spanish teacher who joined the K12 team in 2014. She brings more than 10 years of experience teaching preschool through high school in traditional brick and mortar and online. Lindsay earned her degree from Texas A&M in Communication earning certifications in secondary education Spanish and Speech. She studied abroad in Spain and Mexico.
Joy Zubizarreta is a High School Science Teacher who joined K12 in 2017. She has taught multiple science classes including AP Environmental Science, Aquatic Science, and Pre-AP Biology. Joy has a BS in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University and holds a certificate for Composite HS Science.
