For Yolanda and her daughters, Evelyn and Jocelyn, enrolling in an online elementary school has been more than just a flexible learning option—it’s been a life-changing experience. Since kindergarten, they’ve been part of a K12-powered online school in Texas, building personalized routines and growing in confidence. Their story highlights how virtual learning for elementary students can empower families, foster independence, and support student success.

Staying Involved in Online Learning, Every Step of the Way

“Being involved in my kids’ education means I can help right when they need it…not after a report card comes in.” Yolanda shared. “I could finally see what they were being taught, how they were absorbing it, and where they needed help.”

With online school, Yolanda gained a front-row seat for her daughters’ learning. This deeper involvement allowed her to step in with support exactly when it was needed—and the results speak for themselves.

Creating a Routine That Works for Our Family

The flexibility of online school has allowed Yolanda to create a daily routine that fits her family’s needs. She starts the day early, helping the girls get settled before encouraging more independent learning as they grow.

“If one of them is having a tough day, we just adjust and watch the class recording later. That flexibility means everything.”

This adaptable approach is one of the many benefits of virtual elementary school, helping students thrive at their own pace.

Academic and Emotional Support in Online Education

Online public schools like TOPS give students the space to grow both academically and emotionally, with support tailored to their needs.

Each of Yolanda’s daughters has benefited from online learning in her own way. Evelyn, now in second grade, has become more independent—often just asking for a quick review before submitting her work. Jocelyn, who started in kindergarten, needed more hands-on help at first but quickly found her rhythm.

“They’re both thriving, but in their own ways that fit their personalities.” Whether they’re asking more questions in class or exploring new topics with curiosity, Evelyn and Jocelyn are finding their voices and gaining the confidence to speak up and ask for help when they need it.

Sibling Motivation in a Virtual Classroom

Though they’re in different grades, Evelyn and Jocelyn share a playful motivation that keeps them engaged. They cheer each other on, help with homework, and race to finish assignments so they can enjoy time in the K12 Zone or play Minecraft Education together.

“We race to finish our work so we can both log into K12 Zone and hang out!” They said. The K12 Zone is a social platform that allows online students to engage with fellow students in their classes! Evelyn added, “I don’t have to carry a heavy backpack full of books and lunch boxes. That’s the best part!”

Their story is a great example of how an online school can be fun and flexible, especially for elementary students.

More Than Just School—A Foundation for Growth

For Yolanda, online elementary education has provided more than just academics—it’s given her family the time, flexibility, and support to thrive. K12 has helped them build a learning environment that fits their lives and nurtures their individual strengths
